New! We have recently added a sclera design lens to our manufactured line of specialty GP lens designs. Standard GP lens diameters are about the same size of a patient’s cornea, 8.5mm to 11.2mm, thus identified as corneal lenses. A Scleral lens is larger than the cornea, and can have manufactured diameters of 14mm to 22mm. Scleral lenses are prescribed for irregular corneas. The most notable benefit of Scleral lenses over standard GP corneal lenses is comfort. Because the larger Scleral lens is tucked underneath the upper lid, there is less lens movement, which can translate into a more comfortable lens experience.
Using state-of-the-art lathing technology and modern peripheral and support equipment, we provide precision manufacturing of standard and complex lens geometries. Each lens order is custom manufactured to exact patient’s specifications. Our knowledgeable and well-trained staff of 27 production technicians and management has an average tenure of over 13 years, with combined experience exceeding 341 years.
Our quality system platform is in compliance with FDA regulated guidelines. Production equipment and inspection instruments are setup and calibrated every morning in preparation for production. An initial round of in-process quality checks will begin the day to ensure production gets a good start! Audits and verification activities of in-process production continue at scheduled intervals throughout the day.
Our Quality program also includes a training regimen that progresses through three stages of competence: In Training, Training Completed and then when technician’s competence has reached a level of proficiency, they will have successfully achieved Qualified status. This Advanced Curriculum Training program (ACT) provides on-going cross-training and growth opportunities. 65% of our production staff is currently qualified in 7 or more skill sets. A daily rotational routine keeps technician’s skill sets updated and fresh, resulting in a high level of team participation, collaboration and accountability, enhancing the internal customer experience. The results, a 96.6% yield and a monthly defective product return rate of 1% or less. |

Did you know? Gas Permeable lenses are made of oxygen-permeable polymers, initially developed and FDA approved in the 1970s. A GP contact lens allows transmission of oxygen to the cornea, which makes the lens more comfortable to wear and a healthier alternative to vision correction modalities.
Did you know? ABB Optical Group offers a large inventory of 38 gas permeable materials in a variety of tints, providing Eye Care Practitioners a selection of oxygen permeability levels and wetting angles to customize their patient’s vision needs. GP lens material’s wide range for oxygen permeability allow for a flexible wearing schedule with Daily and Extended Wear modalities
Did you know? ABB Optical Group was the recipient of the inaugural Contact Lens Manufacturing Association (CLMA) Seal of Excellence Award in 1994 and has since received this award for excellence in quality and workmanship for 19 continuous years.
Did you know? In Latin vernacular, optometry defines a lens for the right eye as OD, Oculus Dexter, the lens for the left eye as the OS, Ocular Sinister, and a pair of lenses with the same prescription as OU, Ocular Utrique.
Did you know? Projections indicate 146,880 GP lens orders, or 204, 000 GP lenses will be manufactured by ABB Optical Group in the year 2013.
