Welcome to Specialty Contact Lens Consultation & Special Services

Welcome!

At ABB OPTICAL GROUP our role is to provide the eye care practitioner, their staff and their patients with lens designs, products and services that enhance not only their practice but also the lives of their patients.

Our staff here at ABB OPTICAL GROUP has worked as contact lens fitters, educators at optometry schools and a few have owned their own optical business. Others have worked in the soft lens and/or GP manufacturing arena. We all come together bringing our own area of expertise to our account base.

We pride ourselves on being able to support any product that leaves our warehouse. In our industry today, having a diversified and educated staff such as this is rare.

Our departments are broken up by levels; this is true for both Consultation and the Specialty Customer Service representatives. Each level is reflective of years of experience and education. Both departments are required to   be certified through the National Contact Lens Examiners and / or the American Board of Opticianry. Each of these certifications are also broken up into two groups; Basic Certification and Advanced Certification. Once those are achieved we look to the ABO Masters and the Contact Lens Society of America Fellow programs.

The consultation team works directly with practitioners either on the phones, at industry meetings or in their offices in contact lens fittings. Consultants are constantly in a learning and teaching mind set.

Our Specialty Customer Service staff is responsible for not only taking lens and solution orders but they are also trained in GP and Custom Soft lens selection based the exam information provided. They are trained on the benefits of material, oxygen, designs and resolution for example applying over-refractions on the custom soft lenses and insertion and removal and suggesting appropriate solutions.

Our Special Service staff is responsible for all promotional programs, lens banks, credits and outside vendor ordering of specialty product.

Special Services keep the wheels oiled and all of us on track with everything that goes on in the background of warranties, modifications and returns.

We use an ordering and design platform called Focal Points. This allows us not only data entry but also specific design programs.

On the picture below the FP ordering platform is on the left and topography is loaded on the right which our consultants use quite frequently. Topography is simply a mapping of the surface curvature of corneal, allowing insight into the flat and steep areas so a lens can be designed.

Down the road we hope to utilize a program in Focal Points that will allow a 3-D image of a contact lens based on our inputs on a cornea.

Education is a big factor in our success for both Consultants and our Specialty Customer Service team.  Knowing the newest materials, designs and keeping on top of the changes in this industry. Consultants and Specialty CSR’S are also responsible for maintain their certifications. This requires attendance at national meetings to attend classes and lectures.

Once to twice a year consultants will attend education sponsored by one of our leading vendors to review the success rate of our own designs and our practices.

In March of 2013 we were invited to Arizona for a wet lab utilizing our own designs on actual    patients. This gave us hands on opportunity to see our lenses in action!
